Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) – Accessible Customer Service Policy
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (the “AODA”) is a Provincial Act with the purpose of developing, implementing and enforcing accessibility standards in order to achieve accessibility for persons with disabilities with respect to goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises.
AMO (“the Corporation”) is a not-for-profit corporation that aims to represent its member municipal councils in matters affecting municipal governments and to provide membership services of benefit to municipal government in Ontario.
This policy applies to all persons within the Corporation who deal with members of the public or other third parties on behalf of the Corporation, whether the person does so as an employee, Board Member, agent, on site volunteers at the Corporation’s conferences and events, student on placement, or otherwise and all persons who participate in developing the Corporation’s policies, practices and procedures governing the provision of goods and services to members of the public or other third parties.
Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) – Training
AMO provides two types of training for AMO employees, volunteers and third party contractors. The AMO policy statement as it pertains to Customer Service is: “The Association of Municipalities of Ontario is committed to providing quality goods and services that are accessible to all persons we serve.”
All AMO employees, volunteers and third party contractors are required to have an AODA test of knowledge.
Web Accessibility Statement
AMO is committed to creating an accessible online environment for all visitors to its web site.
Our web site makes use of industry-standard techniques and best practices to provide the highest possible level of web site accessibility for our users. These include:
- Any image used on our web site will contain a textual description that will be read out loud within your screen reader.
- Link text or phrases have been written to make sense when read out loud by a screen reader.
- All font-sizes found on our web site use relative units of measurement. This makes scaling the font-size of our web site easier and more consistent.
- In cases where tables have been used to present data, we've added controls for screen readers to access so they can properly communicate the information contained within back to the user.
- Cascading Style Sheets (or CSS) have been used to control the look and feel of our web site. If your browser is unable to use style sheets, the information within our site will still be accessible to the user.
- Some of our content is in PDF format only. We are working towards reducing our dependence on PDFs for use on our web site.
- Due to conditions beyond our control, there are some instances where we are unable to provide information in an accessible format (for example: mapping information, some RSS feeds). We will be monitoring and developing an accessible solution as technology improves.
Where compliance is not technically possible or may require extraordinary measures due to the nature of the information, a request for exception must be made in writing to AMO.
