Mattawa Creates Permanent Memorial To Mauril Bélanger

A permanent memorial to former government minister Mauril Bélanger is in place in the Town of Mattawa – thanks to support from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

The municipality invested CCBF funding in the installation of memorial obelisks at both ends of the newly-named Mauril Bélanger Memorial Bridge.

Also, a new vista plaza was installed on the bridge’s centre island, with a flag pole base and anchorage and new lighting.

The Honorable Mauril Bélanger was born and raised in Mattawa and held a number of ministerial posts in the House of Commons up until his death in 2016.

A tribute to his achievements will be on permanent display at the bridge.
