Overpass Rehabilitation Brings Widespread Community Benefits to Cornwall

The City of Cornwall invested CCBF funding in the rehabilitation of a Canadian National Railway overpass on Brookdale Avenue.

An in-depth evaluation of the overpass revealed that the structure was in critical condition and in need of substantial repairs just to meet minimum safety standards.

Rather than simply carry out the work required to meet those standards, the City set about making sure any work would have as big a positive impact as possible for the people of Cornwall.

The structural work was carried out, and the sidewalk was also widened to make room for snow-clearing equipment – providing safe, year-round access for pedestrians.

Additionally, the platform itself was widened to allow for the creation of on-street bicycle lanes, contributing to the City’s cycling network expansion plans.
