Markham Another Step Closer to Net-Zero

Three community centres in the City of Markham are being retrofitted to help the City reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Markham is investing more than $590,000 from the CCBF into retrofitting the Mount Joy and Thornhill community centres and RJ Clatworthy arena.

All three facilities will see operational improvements through work like enhancements to heating, ventilation and lighting systems. Combined, these improvements will reduce emissions by more than 580 tonnes.

Additionally, the project will help with an estimated reduction of energy consumption at the Mount Joy location by 75.7%, 25.9% at the Thornhill community centre, and 28.7% at the RJ Clatworthy arena.

The three community centres receiving these upgrades all play an essential role in providing space for Markham residents to connect and pursue recreational and social programs.
