New Culvert Eliminates Lengthy Detour Route in Trent Lakes

The CCBF allowed the Municipality of Trent Lakes to prioritize a vital roads project that was impacting safety and travel time for motorists.

In 2023, staff spent a week replacing a broken culvert on Salmon Lake Road, a rural roadway connected to Highway 507 north of Buckhorn.

Due to the geography of the area, Salmon Lake Road is a vital link for residents and cottagers to access their homes and seasonal residences.

The original culvert was deteriorated to the point that the side wall of the culvert had collapsed. This created a sinkhole in the road, and meant the road had to be closed multiple times. People using the road to access their properties had to take a detour of more than an hour to avoid the sinkhole.

Now that the work is done, the risk of road closure has been mitigated, and Trent Lake staff state residents are happy with the new culvert, and pleased to be able to use the road once again.
