New Streetlights Lighting up Moosonee

The Town of Moosonee is brighter and more energy efficient thanks to investments from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Moosonee is a small community of 1400 people located in northern Ontario near James Bay, with close proximity to Hudson Bay.

In 2022, the Town replaced outdated mercury vapour streetlights with LED bulbs and fixed bulb heads. In all, the Town upgraded 238 streetlights.

These improvements have increased the Town's energy efficiency and lowered energy costs, as well as decreasing their environmental footprint.

Moosonee reports residents are also happy to with the change, with feedback indicating the lights are brighter and much better quality for lighting up the community's streets and sidewalks at night.
