Niagara Region Widens Pelham Road; Improves Safety

A local roads project in the Region of Niagara has made a vital connecting highway safer for everyone.

Niagara Region invested the CCBF into widening and improving Pelham Road, which is a main travel route for people driving from the City of St. Catharines to the Town of Lincoln.

Pelham Road was in poor condition prior to this project. There were water drainage issues, the shoulders of the road were narrow, and ongoing maintenance of the deteriorating road surface was costly for the Region. Investments from the CCBF helped the Region improve drainage, re-pave and widen the surface of the road and add 1.5 metre-wide paved shoulders.

Through this work, the Region improved safety for drivers by providing a safe place for vehicles to pull over during an emergency, and the additional paved shoulder provides a mode for active transportation that was not previously available.
