Vital Roadway in Terrace Bay Rehabilitated

Critical improvements were made to a roadway that leads to vital services in Terrace Bay in 2022. 

Terrace Bay is a township in Thunder Bay District in northern Ontario, Canada, located on the north shore of Lake Superior east of Thunder Bay along Highway 17. It has a total population of around 1,500 people. 

Cartier Road is one of the main roads in the township, leading to the local hospital and ambulance base. Prior to the completion of roadwork in 2022, Cartier Road was deteriorated down below the asphalt in some places, and water pooling was becoming an issue. 

In order to fix the road, the Township removed 500 square metres of old asphalt, drained the roadbed to improve drainage, and laid down new asphalt on top. 

The water now drains properly off the road, and drivers no longer have to slow down, or compromise their safety by going into the opposite lane to avoid potholes.
